About Us
Together, our papers provide accurate, community-focused reporting on the issues and stories that shape daily life—local government, schools, businesses, sports, arts, and the people who make our communities strong.
We transitioned to a 501(c)(3) nonprofit model to support the long-term sustainability of independent local media. This structure allows us to operate more efficiently—particularly in business operations—so we can reinvest resources into reporting, distribution, and community access. At a time when national media consolidation and rising costs threaten local news, our nonprofit model helps protect trusted, independent journalism and keep it rooted where it belongs: in the community.
Our Why: Local News Matters
When local news disappears, communities lose their voice. Achievements go uncelebrated, milestones are overlooked and decisions are made without accountability. That is why local news matters — and why we are committed to keeping it strong in Winnebago County.
The Need: A Trusted Voice in a Noisy World
Winnebago Media Group provides one trusted voice with clear, consistent reporting by trained journalists. We ask the questions that matter, seek the perspectives that broaden understanding and deliver the facts with accuracy and integrity.
Our Solution: The Power of the Printed Paper
Each edition includes reliable reporting, sports, community events and stories that celebrate the people who make our towns unique.
We also give back, publishing and distributing scholastic news for children and providing more than $75,000 in free advertising space each year to local nonprofits. In doing so, we not only inform our communities — we strengthen them.
The Impact: Partners in News You Can Trust
Every dollar invested fuels impact. Memberships sustain local journalists, and advertising dollars support small businesses and provide opportunities for nonprofits to share their mission stories. Together, this strengthens the entire county and fuels a thriving local economy.
